The lights are spinning, music is popping, and the performers are ready to entertain in the sparkling world of Montreal’s drag scene. Simon (Théodore Pellerin, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Boy Erased), a makeup artist by day and drag performer by night, meets Olivier (Félix Maritaud) a charismatic drag artist from France, and the two embark on a colorful collaboration as drag partners and a passionate love affair. Into the mix comes Simon’s distant, estranged mother Claire, a famous opera singer who’s back in town for the first time in 15 years for a show. As Simon’s star rises, jealousies unfold, and Simon must decide if he can live with both Claire’s and his boyfriend’s conditional love. With one beautiful costume (designed by his sister) and song after another, Simon is finding his way in this energetic and high-spirited world. Solo won Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto International Film Festival and is a lively mix of backstage drama, captivating performances, and the story of a drag artist finding their way.
