On October 20, 1967, Yakima-resident Roger Patterson and his friend Robert Gimlin captured 59 seconds of footage showing a hirsute creature walking through the Northern California woods, fifty miles north of Willow Creek. Known today as the Patterson-Gimlin Film, it would become one of the most analyzed and debated pieces of film in the history of the medium. Had Patterson and Gimlin proven the existence of the legendary cryptid known as Bigfoot? Despite charges of a hoax, Patterson never wavered in his claims to its authenticity, traveling around the country to exhibit it. After his untimely death in 1972, his widow and their family survived off of its licensing fees. Then, in 2024, a reel of 16mm film discovered in a safe changed everything—Clint Patterson, Roger’s son, embarked upon a search for the truth, uncovering long simmering grudges, buried secrets, and outright lies.
