Celluloid Screenings
More 35mm, More 70mm, All at SIFF
Experience the way films are meant to be seen—on film!
Movies shot and projected on film provide a more natural and organic image than digital pixels. Exhibiting film is a highly skilled, labor-intensive process and our projectionists are passionate and hard at work making these movies look exceptional on our screens.
70mm:
- Finer detail and resolution
- Usually reserved for epics and spectacle films
- Cameras shoot on 65mm, then printed on 70mm for exhibition
35mm
- Most commonly used film gauge
- Was the most ubiquitous exhibition format before digital projection became popular
- Began with the highly flammable cellulose nitrate base up until the 1950s
