L.A. Noir: Shadows in Paradise

Presented by Greg Olson Productions

Driver (Ryan Gosling) travels light. Jeans, T-shirt, jacket’s got a scorpion design. He’s an ace at the wheel, for money he’ll drive for you whether your purpose is light (he’s a Hollywood stunt driver) or dark (criminal activities). Driver’s precise, in control, so when he says he’ll do his job for you, takes your payment for working exactly so many minutes and seconds, that’s all you get. Self-contained, tiny apartment. When he shares an elevator ride with a sweet-looking woman (Carey Mulligan) they only share a shy, split-second glance, no words. But there’s an unstated hum of connection between them that persists after her husband (Oscar Issac) comes home from prison. Gosling personifies the Romantic Movement, like a troubadour of old pledged to his lady in spirit. There are good guys ("Breaking Bad"’s Bryan Cranston) and bad guys (Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman, "Mad Men"’s Christina Hendricks) to complicate things, but Gosling will drive Mulligan in the golden afternoon and through the night, have no fear.
