Inspired by the 1941 Fântâna Albă tragedy, the film recreates the struggles faced by a Romanian community in Bessarabia while under Soviet occupation during WWII. A young couple gets separated when the wife and daughters are deported to Siberia, leaving the husband guilt-ridden in Romania.
