Another World is a film that pulls no punches. As one of only a small handful of feature-length animations to ever come out of Hong Kong, it is not afraid to take big swings. Concerned with nothing less than grief, faith, sacrifice and what it ultimately means to be human, it's unflinching in its willingness to show the dark on the way to seeking the light. It all begins when Gudo, a guide in the afterlife, meets the young Yuri, who doesn't know she's died. She begs him to help find her brother, setting in motion a pair of parallel stories of rage and guilt, vengeance and love, that barrel towards a devastating realization. Full of imagery unforgettable for both its surreal beauty and brutality, as well as exhilarating action sequences and uniquely rugged animation, Another World is a wholly spellbinding experience. It's a film overflowing with big emotions and even bigger imagery that demands to be seen on the big screen.
