On December 30, 2000, a group of friends set out to climb Balandrau mountain in the Catalan Pyrenees under clear, sunny skies. What began as a perfect early New Year celebration quickly turned into a nightmare. Within minutes, a savage high-mountain blizzard swept in, whipping snow and wind, reducing visibility to almost nothing, and plunging them into a frigid, disorienting storm—one of the deadliest ever recorded in the Pyrenees. The hours that followed were tense and relentless, each friend confronting the harrowing reality that every choice could mean life or death. Fernando Trullols' first feature brings this true story vividly to life. With breathtaking cinematography and sharp editing, the film captures both the mountain's beauty and its merciless danger, creating a tense, unsettling atmosphere. Álvaro Cervantes (2026 Goya Award Winner for Deaf – winner of the Ibero Competition at SIFF 2025), delivers a quietly powerful performance as Josep Maria Vilà, the sole survivor, conveying the raw, intimate struggle for survival. The film is both a tribute to human resilience and a cautionary tale. We witness firsthand the terror, experiencing the fragility—and the extraordinary strength—of the human spirit when confronted with nature's ultimate test.
