Eleven-year-old Iris is on her own. Her father, Aris, left when she was a baby. Her mother, who has a new man in her life, has gone away with him for a few days. Her older brother, Fivo, is busy with his girlfriend. Even her best friend, Danae, who is a few years older, seems more interested in hanging out with the local boys.
But one dusty, hot summer day, Iris' father comes back! She spots him in the cemetery on the edge of his father's funeral. But they don't meet properly until he's summoned to bail her out of jail after she and Danae are caught "borrowing" someone's boat. Aris himself is hardly a paragon of virtue, always running some scam or other, but for her part, Iris is smitten. Her father doesn't share her feelings, and at first, he's keen to be rid of her—until he realizes that a cute little girl is a magnet for potential marks. They form a reasonably successful team and Iris is in heaven, reunited with the father she never knew. But when Aris' creditors find out he's back in town, things take a more serious turn for father and daughter alike.
