Just how deep and dangerous are the hooks of colonialism in Africa today? In doing so, she also uncovers a secret that her family is desperate to keep buried. Kikuyu Land is a bruising indictment of capitalist oppression that plays out like a twisty crime thriller. The portrait it paints is damning. It reveals that while British rule may have officially ended more than 60 years ago, the structures it created to consolidate wealth and exploit the poor continue to reverberate unchecked through every level of Kenyan society to this day.
