Sons of the Neon Night hearkens back to the wildly ambitious, hyper-stylized crime cinema that put Hong Kong filmmaking on the international map. Set in a bleached out, revisionist version of 1994, the daily routine of rush hour is suddenly shattered when gunmen open fire on a snowy Causeway Bay. The violence quickly spreads to a hospital, when a policeman unexpectedly detonates a suicide vest, leading to the death of a pharmaceutical mogul. These shocking events kickstart a Shakespearean power struggle between two sons over the soul of their family. Juno Mak's much anticipated sophomore work is the biggest budget film to ever come out of Hong Kong. Boasting a full size replica of Causeway Bay constructed for its opening sequence, original theme music by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, and acting legends Takeshi Kaneshiro (Chungking Express, House of Flying Daggers) and Tony Leung Ka-fai (New Dragon Gate Inn, Cold War), Sons of the Neon Night brings romance and tragedy to a serpentine tale of greed, addiction and a house divided.
