Winner of Best Feature Film at the Biarritz Latin America Film Festival, The Condor Daughter follows Clara (Marisol Vallejos), a young Quechua midwife with a remarkable singing voice, living in the Bolivian Andes. Raised by her adoptive mother Ana Lindaura (Maria Magdalena Sanizo), Clara has been taught the ancestral traditions of midwifery, including sacred Quechua songs believed to ease women's pain during childbirth. Influenced by her best friend and a circle of artists, Clara begins to dream of a different life. She leaves her mountain village for the city, hoping to pursue a musical career. Her departure unsettles the community, where midwives are more than healers—they are regarded as messengers of Pachamama, the Earth Mother. Without them, the village fears that the spiritual balance of life is unraveling. Convinced that the community has fallen under a curse, Ana embarks on a journey to bring Clara back home. The breathtaking Andean landscapes provide a striking contrast to Vallejos and Sanizo's quiet, earnest performances, and it is in this juxtaposition that the camera captures the intimate, compassionate inner struggles of their characters. Blending spirituality with cultural identity, The Condor Daughter explores the enduring tension between personal freedom and ancestral responsibility, offering a deeply human story rooted in tradition and the transformative power of choice.
