In the 1970s, student filmmaker Agnieszka investigates the life of a 1950s bricklayer and discredited labor hero who is only remembered through statue representations in cellars and storage lockers. Discovering facts about the bricklayer have been suppressed, she has to decide whether to pursue the truth or not while navigating the complexities of communism's rise in Poland. Mixing satirical humor and poetic storytelling, this thought-provoking examination of the moral responsibility of an individual and the way art can challenge dominant ideology remains one of Wajda’s most unique productions.
