Based on the Amazon bestselling book "The Backcourt," The Backcourt Documentary chronicles the remarkable story of Tucson basketball legends Delano Price and Hoegie Simmons, the best-kept secret of Southwest playground folklore. Their friendship and dynamic backcourt helped lead Tucson High School to the 1969 state championship, but their story extends far beyond basketball. Through personal interviews, history, and reflection, the film explores brotherhood, triumph, adversity, and the social forces that shaped their lives and generations around them, including the Great Migration, the crack epidemic, the explosion of gang culture and its amplification through 1990s media narratives, and the prison-industrial complex. At its heart, The Backcourt is a story about two gifted men whose lives took dramatically different paths while their shared legacy endured.
