Severely punished by her rigid, religion-driven parents for her stutter, teen Ju-Ju (Nana Mori) flees her small town in search of something freer. She lands in Tokyo's Kabukicho district, where a loose-knit group of street kids offers her a fragile sense of belonging—one built on survival, impulse, and unspoken wounds.
As Ju-Ju navigates this volatile new world, her desire to protect her younger sister pulls her deeper into choices that blur care and self-destruction. Director Makoto Nagahisa (We Are Little Zombies) brings his signature hyper-stylized visual energy to a story that is both visceral and intimate, capturing the contradictions of youth culture on the margins.
Presented at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, Burn is an unflinching portrait of alienation and resilience, exposing the emotional toll of neglect and the systems that fail those most in need of protection.
