François (Gilles Lellouche) writes a series of crime novels set in the 19th century, featuring the swashbuckling detective the Marquis de la Rose, and his partner Colette (Laetitia Casta) is a professor at the Sorbonne and world-renowned expert on Alfred Hitchcock. But while their professional lives are full of drama, their home life has become somewhat humdrum. Until, that is, a new couple moves in across the courtyard of their Paris apartment building—the man is an actor (Guillaume Gallienne), the woman runs a theater. One day, Colette witnesses a violent argument between them, after which the woman seems to disappear.
Unsettled, François and Colette decide to launch their own real-life investigation, equipping themselves with binoculars, hidden cameras, and a crime-lite lamp. As they debate different hypotheses, follow up clues, search for evidence, and tail their suspect, it rekindles a spark in their mundane life, and their relationship. A delightful Paris-set Hitchcock homage!
