Catalan chef Joan Roca is often considered the Messi of the kitchen—a phrase that captures the stature of his revolutionary cuisine. To celebrate Roca's influence, legacy, and career, renowned chef Dani Garcia brought together twenty of Spain's most celebrated chefs, collectively holding 70 Michelin stars, for a tribute dinner in Barcelona. In the intensely competitive world of Spanish gastronomy, this idea posed nightmarish logistical and personal challenges. What followed, however, was a rare display of collaboration: some of the country's most influential culinary figures working side by side to create an extraordinary banquet. They transformed the kitchen into a vibrant workshop of mouthwatering, emblematic dishes inspired by the cuisine of El Celler de Can Roca, Roca's legendary restaurant, and by everything Joan himself has inspired in them over the years. Directed by Virginia Jönas Urigüen and Jorge Fernández Mayoral, One of Our Own explores both the public and private sides of the chef's world—from the historic kitchen of El Celler de Can Roca to intimate conversations that reveal Roca's reflective and generous character, and the sheer creativity of the dishes prepared for the event. A celebration that becomes a symbol of the friendships, loyalty, and shared values that shaped Spain's gastronomic revolution, proving, as Roca reflects in the film, that cooking is not just technique but emotion—an act of generosity capable of inspiring others, bringing people together, and even changing lives.
