In early 18th-century Venice, Cecilia, a young girl, struggles to survive in a secluded and frigid orphanage for abandoned girls, where the nuns rule with an iron fist. Trained to perform in a renowned musical ensemble for tourists, dignitaries, and wealthy male patrons, the girls are hidden behind screens and convent walls, clinging to dreams of their mothers' return or the hope and impending dread that an arranged marriage to a benefactor might offer an escape. When the brilliant and unconventional Antonio Vivaldi arrives as the ensemble's new instructor, he quickly recognizes Cecilia's extraordinary talent as a gifted virtuoso. With her talent acknowledged, Cecilia stands on the brink of changing her destiny.
Based on the historical fiction novel "Stabat Mater" by Tiziano Scarpa, Primavera draws inspiration from Vivaldi's nearly three decades teaching at the Ospedale della Pietà and the girls who refused to be silenced. Featuring a powerful score by Fabio Massimo Capogrosso, this award-winning period drama offers a profound meditation on personal liberation and the driving force of artistic passion.
