On Ani-Marathon

As cherry blossom season comes to a close and Sakura Con wraps up we wanted to put together a celebration of some of our favorite anime features. Anime has been a major inspiration for my interest in art and animation since I was a child and my exposure to the art form introduced me to many complex ideas from an early age. One of the things I love about animated films in general is their ability to do things traditional filmmaking cannot. It can bend reality and simulate camera movement in ways technology still cannot fully catch up with and allows for a grasp at the fantastic. Japanese animation in particular has a style that I have always appreciated that showcases greater attention to the scenery than western animation has (outside of Moebius), making it feel more immersive and lived in. A wider market in Japan also means that several films are created with more adult themes.
