Slamdance’s 2025 groundbreaking showcase amplifies disabled filmmakers

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 23, 2025) – Slamdance, a year-round organization by filmmakers for filmmakers, will bring its national tour, Slamdance Unstoppable, to SIFF in Seattle on July 6.

Following a highly successful launch in Salt Lake City, SIFF hosts the third stop on Slamdance’s summer tour, which brings Unstoppable programming to arthouse theaters across the country. Programmed by disabled artists, the initiative expands the reach of groundbreaking work by filmmakers with visible and non-visible disabilities—championing accessibility, representation, and intersectionality in independent film and U.S. cinema.

“SIFF is excited to partner with Slamdance to present UNSTOPPABLE. It has never been more important to spotlight the stories of artists with visible and non-visible disabilities, including Seattle’s own Mindie Lind with View From The Floor,” said SIFF Artistic Director Beth Barrett. “As spaces for stories struggle in this climate, celebrating the rich diversity of these filmmakers speaks to the mission of SIFF – to champion film discovery and create spaces for powerful film experiences.”

Unstoppable at SIFF features a powerful lineup of both narrative and documentary films, curated from disability-inclusive festivals including Slamdance, Sundance, ReelAbilities, Superfest, and Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. The program includes in person filmmaker discussions and Q&A’s.

Slamdance has partnered with accessible venues for the tour and prioritized seeking venues that provide ASL interpretation, captions, audio descriptions, and other accommodations. The tour will include in person Q & A’s and discussions at each venue, and Slamdance will cover travel and lodging to ensure our filmmakers can attend and engage directly with local audiences.

Additional partners of the tour include Salt Lake Film Society, The Frida Cinema, and Milwaukee Film among others. Each has a long history of supporting independent and cultural cinema, making them ideal collaborators for Unstoppable: On the Road. In support of the filmmakers, the tour will follow a 50/50 box office split, with 40% of ticket sales going directly to the filmmakers and 10% covering tour costs.

“This tour is a true rockstar moment for our filmmakers,” said Unstoppable Co-Founder Juliet Romeo. “Having our stories travel from state to state, screening at incredible art houses, feels like the Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Beyoncé tour rolled into one. Our third stop in Seattle—at the incredible and Legendary SIFF Cinema Uptown—continues that momentum by reaching vibrant new audiences and building community through film.”

All venues on the Unstoppable tour are ADA-compliant and provide accessibility measures such as open captions, ASL interpretation, and audio descriptions. Slamdance provides travel and lodging for participating filmmakers to support in-person conversations and community engagement.
Slamdance Unstoppable is a U.S. cinema arthouse expansion of Slamdance’s acclaimed festival showcase, created to expand exhibition of work by disabled filmmakers and help dismantle historic industry barriers that have halted their progress. The 2025 tour includes stops in Salt Lake City, Santa Ana, Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee, Manhattan, and Miami.
