What: Cinema Italian Style

Where: SIFF Cinema Uptown

When: Nov 12 - 19

SIFF presents Cinema Italian Style, its seventh annual celebration of the best in current Italian films. The eight-day event will feature 15 extraordinary features with some of the biggest names in Italian cinema today. Including David di Donatello's Award-winning films God Willing, nuanced drama The Dinner, and actor/director Edoardo Leo's The Legendary Giulia and Other Miracles (also the Italian Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy). In addition, SIFF will present two critically acclaimed films from the Taviani Brothers (with a stunning new restoration of Oscar® winner The Night of Shooting Stars and their new film Wondrous Boccaccio), incredibly timely drama Mediterranea from debut director Jonas Carpignano, Cristina Comencini's comedy Latin Lover, and cult master Claudio Caligari's final film (Don't Be Bad, Italy's Oscar® submission).

Join us Opening Night for a semi-autobiographical family drama from master director Nanni Moretti (The Son's Room). Margherita Buy stars as an earnest film director in the midst of production who is juggling her mother's illness, her daughter's adolescence, and the recent arrival of a brash yet insecure American actor, played by the great John Turturro. Join us after the film for our Opening Night Party at Top of the Town at Hotel Sorrento!

For our spectacular Closing Night, SIFF presents Latin Lover, a charming screwball comedy of love and family is a witty take on classic Italian cinema and features the great Virna Lisi in her final screen appearance. Join us after the film for our Closing Night Party at Melrose Market Studios!

Special guests will travel to Seattle to attend Cinema Italian Style and connect with film audiences, including filmmakers Marco Pontecorvo and Marco Valerio Pugini (Partly Cloudy (with Sunny Spells) on Nov 13and actor Alessandro Borghi (Don't Be Bad on Nov 14 & 15).

"Cinema Italian Style gets more exciting every year" says Carl Spence, Artistic and Co-Director of SIFF." These films in our seventh festival are a great mix of comedy, documentary, and drama, with messages that are both incredibly timely and universal. We are proud to feature the Italian submission to the Academy Awards, Claudio Caligari's Don't Be Bad, 2014 Oscar® winner Paolo Sorrentino's new film Youth, and two great films starring the inimitable John Turturro: Partly Cloudy (With Sunny Spells) and Nanni Moretti's My Mother, our Opening Night Film. Many of the films are award winners or were big hits with Italian audiences - I'm pleased that Seattle audiences will have a chance to see them."

Bookended by two fabulous parties and with special guests in attendance, the week promises to be una settimana di film straordinario!
