Though early Armenian cinema can be traced to the early 20th century, the electric auteurs of the 1960s set the stage for international recognition and admiration. Renowned filmmakers like Sergei Paradjanov drew foreign eyes towards the country’s rich cultural and historic legacy, motifs and symbols plucked from the mountainous landscape of the Highlands. Both domestic and exiled filmmakers have honored their heritage through films that wander through yearning, pride, and a deep love for the Motherland.

On Paradjanov’s centennial year, join us for a special journey through Armenian cinema. We are honored to screen Atom Egoyan’s Calendar - a heartfelt reflection on cultural embrace. This one-day program will also feature a lecture on the Armenian New Wave, as well as a US Premiere presentation of Zara Jian's film I will revenge this world with Love - S. Paradjanov. Director Zara Jian scheduled to attend.
