Looking back on his earlier drug-taking days, Scorsese said, “Sin is fun,” it feels good to be bad, break the rules, indulge the animal side of your nature. But the euphoric thrill of immediate gratification can eclipse any concern about the state of your soul, and Scorsese cares about how we treat ourselves and others. Based on the life of financial scammer Jordan Belfort, Wolf chronicles his (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner’s (Jonah Hill) giddy swindlers' ride to the top, fueled by millions of dollars fleeced from vulnerable investors. DiCaprio purchased the rights to Belfort’s book, knowing that Scorsese “could bring the humor to convey the excitement of these young punks—these robber barons—taking on the Wall Street system.” It’s fun partying with these seductive barbarians, flying free of conscience on a bacchanal of sex, drugs, and endless money—kings of the world. Scorsese wonders, “What’s in us that makes us enjoy this?” Scorsese increased universal enjoyment by debuting Margot Robbie (Barbie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Belfort’s disgruntled wife Naomi. FBI Agent Denham (Kyle Chandler) thinks its time for playtime to end.
